3º E.S.O. MUSIC
The modes.
The modes are the scales of medieval times, hence it is said that music based on their use is modal music.
A mode is a succession of 8 consecutive sounds, lacking alterations, each of which began with one of the seven musical notes, which makes the distribution of tones and semitones different in each of them.
Each mode is attributed the ability to awaken a series of feelings and emotions in the listener. This influence on human emotions is what the Greeks called ethos.
The use of modes extends to the seventeenth century although today there are still many examples that resort to their use.
